Writing with a View

August 9th, 2:30 - 4:30.  Join park interpreter and local author Bowen Gillings for an online version of our Writing With a View program, which combines inspiring views of Garden of the Gods with the joy of creative writing. A series of four writing prompts following Pikes Peak Region themes guide you to put words on the page. All writers are welcome, beginners through experts!

Author and journalist Phil Carson will deliver a special online presentation to commemorate the 200th anniversary of the Long Expedition and Dr. Edwin James climb of Pikes Peak. This talk is based on James's unpublished diary and letters from the Long Expedition of 1820. Phil Carson’s research is also a feature article in the Summer 2020 issue of Colorado Heritage, the publication of History Colorado. July 14, 2020 marks the 200th anniversary of the Long Expedition passing through Colorado and the first recorded climb of Pikes Peak by Dr. Edwin James. Wildflower Photography Online Workshop

Flowers are blooming in the park which makes this an excellent time to learn how to take great flower photos! Join award-winning photographer and hiker Bob "Hiking Bob" Falcone for an online lesson in wildflower photography. Learn Bob's secrets for making outstanding photos in all kinds of weather and lighting conditions, using anything from a cell phone to a high-end digital SLR. All levels of photography and experience are welcome, and this is a great class for beginners.

A Colorado Springs resident for 27 years, Bob is an avid hiker & outdoorsman, and leads group hikes for both fitness, business and pleasure. Coloring Program

We really miss seeing all our wonderful visitors right now at the Garden of the Gods Visitor & Nature Center! Since we can’t see you in person yet, we want to invite you all to share our love of Garden of the Gods by joining us in an online coloring program while we all continue to maintain social distance. This online program was inspired by our “Coloring with a View Program” that takes place in the café at the Visitor Center. Coloring is a fun way to relax, be creative, and is great for all ages.

 

Reading Rocks Program

Each week we will read a new book and explore one of our exciting exhibits within the Garden of the Gods Visitor and Nature Center.

 

The Noisy, Nosy Magpie

The baby magpies have arrived! Just in time for summer, the little magpie fledglings have left the nest here at the Garden of the Gods Visitor & Nature Center. We filmed our discovery of the fledglings for this special online program. Volunteer naturalist Carol Wilcox joined us to share fascinating magpie facts and stories in this fun video. We hope you enjoy learning more about these noisy, nosy and interesting birds.
