200th Anniversary of the Long Expedition
July 14, 2020 marks the 200th anniversary of the Long Expedition passing through Colorado and the first recorded climb of Pikes Peak by Dr. Edwin James. We really miss seeing all our wonderful visitors right now at the Garden of the Gods Visitor & Nature Center! Since we can’t see you in person yet, we want to invite you all to share our love of Garden of the Gods by joining us in an online coloring program while we all continue to maintain social distance. This online program was inspired by our “Coloring with a View Program” that takes place in the café at the Visitor Center. Coloring is a fun way to relax, be creative, and is great for all ages.
The baby magpies have arrived! Just in time for summer, the little magpie fledglings have left the nest here at the Garden of the Gods Visitor & Nature Center. We filmed our discovery of the fledglings for this special online program. Volunteer naturalist Carol Wilcox joined us to share fascinating magpie facts and stories in this fun video. We hope you enjoy learning more about these noisy, nosy and interesting birds.
