Your students are welcome to join us for a fun, educational field trip in the majestic Garden of the Gods Park. Three different programs are offered for grade levels K-6. See below for information on each program. Field Trips for the 2014-2015 school year are offered on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays, September 23rd through December 11th, and March 3rd through May 7th (*no programs offered in January or February).

Programs fill fast, so reserve your trip early by emailing gog1909@live.com or calling 719-219-0108. Tuition is $2.00 per student; there is no charge for staff; suggested donation of $2.00 for other adult participants. Cash or checks payable to Friends of Garden of the Gods (FOGG) will be collected the day of the program.  Credit Cards are not accepted.

Geology of the Garden of the Gods Park

Geology of the Park is offered on Tuesdays 10:00-12:00; Wednesdays 9:15-11:15 and 12:00-2:00; Thursdays 10:00-12:00.

Experience basic geology concepts in the best possible location and see the magnificent results.  Our curriculum covers the three rock types, the three basic geologic processes and covers a few of the rock formations seen in the Garden of the Gods. For 2014-2015, your trip begins at Rock Ledge Ranch Historic Site with an interactive indoor geology presentation and movie about the Garden’s geologic history.  This is followed by a guided walk through the Central Garden in small groups.  Aligned with Colorado State Academic Standards for Science: Physical, Life, and Earth Systems.

For reservations call 719-219-0108 or email gog1909@live.com

New in 2014-2015!

Explore the Park
Grades K-6

Explore the Park is offered only on Thursdays from 12:45-2:00.

In response to teacher requests, “Explore the Park” offers a 1-hour guided hike through the Central Garden. Students have the opportunity for a more relaxed, less structured, yet more in-depth outdoor experience.  We cover both the ecology AND geology of the Park at the appropriate grade level. Your trip begins at the Perkins Central Garden trail head at the North Main parking lot (#2) and does not include an indoor presentation; by doing so, Explore the Park allows for an extended hike, viewing more of the trails and rock formations than the other programs. Students are asked to prepare for the trip by thinking of a question or topic to be discussed on the walk!  Older students may be encouraged to do some online research prior to the trip. This is a fun and exciting new opportunity for a field trip! Aligned with Colorado State Academic Standard for Science: Physical, Life, and Earth Systems.
